SWEDISH MASSAGE EXPLAINED...

Massage has a long and well documented history with writings being found in many ancient civilizations
including Rome, Greece, India, Japan, China and Egypt. A biblical reference from c.493 BC documents daily
massage with olive oil and myrrh as a part of the beauty regimen of the wives of Xerxes. Hippocrates wrote in
460 BC that "The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing".

There are many types of massage therapy; all of which involve manipulating the muscles and other soft
tissues of the body. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other
connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system.
Massage become popular in the United States in the middle part of the 1800s and was introduced by two
New York physicians based on Per Henrik Ling's techniques developed in Sweden.

During the 1930s and 1940s massage's influence decreased as a result of medical advancements of the time, while in the 1970s massage's
influence grew once again with a notable rise among athletes.  Massage was also used by nurses up until the 1960s and 1970s  to help ease
patients’ pain and help them sleep.

Swedish massage, also known as therapeutic massage is the foundation for Western massage. Working
superficially and deeper into the tissue layers, the therapist uses a sequence of long strokes, kneading, and
friction on the muscles to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits (see
benefits of massage section).

It is a smooth gentle style of massage which as well as promoting overall relaxation can also improve circulation, range of movement and relieve
minor muscle pain/stiffness.

The pressure applied by the therapist varies  but usually includes some deeper work on areas of specific muscle tension.

As no two people are alike, the treatment can be varied in pressure and speed to suit the needs of the client and can be applied over the entire
body or just a specific area e.g the back. To treat a specific injury, a Sports Massage would be a better choice.

With work and family commitments modern life can be stressful. This stress if left unchecked can lead to or worsen illness, therefore everyone,
male & female, deserves a well needed moment of relaxation and this massage is just right for relaxing mind and body.

This treatment is a great choice if you feel like pampering yourself but also makes a great gift for family members and friends too!
